We’re excited to announce that Puzzling Places is coming out of Beta and launching on the official Oculus Store for Quest and Quest 2 in two weeks on the 2nd of September!

After being one of the highest rated titles on Oculus App Lab, Puzzling Places is a big step up from Puzzling Places — Beta in content, features, visuals, user experience design, as well as app functionality.

The game includes 16 brand new puzzles, each playable in five difficulty variants (ranging from 25 pieces up to 400 pieces). Every puzzle also includes detailed and immersive soundscapes that react to the puzzle progression and build as you get closer to completion.

We’re excited to reveal more details about the new features of Puzzling Places upon launch on the 2nd of September.

Launch Content Reveal

This month, we’ve been progressively unveiling the four “puzzle packs” included in Puzzling Places. So far, we’ve revealed the Hallwyl Museum Pack as well as the Armenia Pack.

This week, we’re revealing the third included puzzle pack — the Biarritz City Pack!

Immerse yourself into the largest-scale puzzles we’ve ever made, with each puzzle covering sections of the beautiful, French Atlantic city of Biarritz!

This pack was created in partnership with Gerpho3D, a French Photogrammetry company that specializes in using planes to capture cities, castles, and massive landscapes with incredible scale and resolution.

The Puzzling Places History

Releasing the full Puzzling Places game on the Oculus Store has been a dream since we started developing the title and has been no small feat to finally get here.

In May 2020, we released Puzzling Places [Prototype] on SideQuest, a secondary app store for the Oculus Quest for new and experimental titles, as a way for us to get world validation of the core game loop before we continued development. The prototype game contained a single 100-piece puzzle, the Tatev Monastery, which became an instant favorite amongst SideQuest players.

SideQuest enabled us to create a community of passionate puzzlers who gave us feedback, bug reports, and helped us to evolve Puzzling Places beyond a prototype. In June of 2020, after continuous requests from the community for new puzzles to play, we launched a Patreon campaign where players could support the development in exchange for new, weekly “test puzzles” that we released for the following 60 weeks.

After over 40,000 downloads, 300+ 5 star reviews, and an ever-growing Discord, Oculus invited us to release Puzzling Places — Beta as one of the launch titles of Oculus App Lab in February 2021 where a smaller, Beta version of the game has been available ever since.

Finally, we will release the full Puzzling Places game to the entire Oculus Quest community through the official Oculus Store! To our knowledge, we are one of two apps that has graduated from Oculus App Lab to the official Store.

We’re incredibly excited for this important step and are looking forward to future releases, including the launch of Puzzling Places on PlayStation VR later this year!
